If your kids are complaining of being bored at the weekend or during the school holidays, and you want them to do something more creative than watching back to back episodes of Boss Baby on Netflix, we've come up with a list of our 20 favourite UK-based blogs with craft ideas.

There are home-made Faberge pumpkins and geeky Star Wars Day decorations. If you prefer unicorn slime, then we can point you in that direction too. Maybe you want some ideas for how your children can prepare for the next Chinese New Year.

Some bloggers helpfully organise sections of creative ideas for different seasons – Valentine’s Day, Hallowe’en, Diwali. Others have pretty cute decorations for Christmas for you to workshop with your little ones.

So, here’s a little more info about our five favourites.

1 CRAFTS ON SEA

Logo

Kate lives by the sea in Cornwall with her two children, her eight-year-old son and five-year-old daughter.

She has helpful tips on tidying a room bursting with toys, which is very helpful this time of year. Not least since everyone is going minimal a la Marie Kondo these days. She’s particularly proud of her Captain America paper plate shield, and why shouldn’t she be?

2 RED TED ART

DIY Pokemon Pencil Craft By Red ted Art

The tagline on the website is ‘Cute and Easy Crafts for Kids’, so what’s not to like there?

Molly keeps up a steady stream of creative ideas that you can do with your children from toddlers onwards – at least once a week with a detailed how-to description, which is pretty impressive.

We particularly liked the DIY Pokemon pencil holders.

3 CRAFTULATE

Painted bird boxes by Craftulate

Erica runs this busy blog with the interesting name (pronounced Craft-You-Late, apparently) and it is an absolute goldmine of craft ideas.

We especially like the index, which is organised along the lines of things like home-made toys, animal crafts and painting bird boxes. You have no chance of leaving the site without some fun ideas.

4 SCIENCE SPARKS

Charlie's box

Perhaps this isn’t a crafts blog exactly, as it is more about helping kids build and play with scientific experiments. But making stuff is making stuff, so we’re including it in the list.

There’s a huge amount of resources on here for the scientifically curious. The Baby and Toddler Science section has a couple of nice suggestions and there’s stuff to help with the curriculum too once they are of school age.

5 KIDS CRAFT ROOM

Flying ghost

The kids craft gallery on this site includes more ideas of what to do with paper plates than you will ever need. There are also plenty of printable templates to make all kinds of creatures and flying ghosts made from paper cups.
