Winter has come to an end and we're all starting to plan for the Summer ahead. For those festival goers amongst us, there are now more family-friendly festivals than ever to choose from, offering a wide range of activities to keep the kids and even the adults entertained. Just make sure you pray for sunshine!

Here's our selection of some of the best family-friendly festivals in the UK 2019:

1 CAMP BESTIVAL

Started by Radio 1 DJ Rob Da Bank, Camp Bestival is regarded by many to be the best family-friendly festival in the UK. Household names like Mr Tumble, Mister Maker, PJ Masks and Wallace & Gromit provide a constant flow of entertainment for the little ones while older kids are catered for too with rides, areas to explore, a circus school and plenty of physical or creative activities. 

Don't miss the World's biggest bouncy castle, a performance in the theatre tent or one of the many musical workshops aimed at under 5's.

And....with acts like Nile Rodgers & Chic, Jess Glynne, Lewis Capaldi and The Wailers lined up for 2019, there's plenty to entertain the big kids as well as the little ones.

25th - 28th July 2019 | Lulworth Castle, Dorset

2 LATTITUDE

Lattitude is more of a pure festival than Camp Bestival but they have families covered too, and even won 'Best Family Festival' in 2018 at the UK Festival Awards. There's a fantastic Kids Area with activities like pizza making, star gazing and a kid's disco alongside a wide range of science, music, crafting and theatre activities.

Teens can explore the woodland area, enjoy a wide range of music and film or even channel their inner Versace in fashion wonderland. If you want to escape the crowds, there's also the chilled out Enchanted Garden where kids can learn circus skills, screen printing, archery or hone their dance moves.

Lattitude also manages to provide a multitude of activities away from the norm whether that be yoga workshops or even swimming in the lake! Headline acts for 2019 include George Ezra, Primal Scream, Lana Del Ray, Jason Manford and Frank Skinner.

18th-21st July 2019 | Henham Park, Suffolk

3 Womad

There's definitely something for everyone at Womad, the world's largest world music festival. Children aged 13 and under go free which is a big draw compared to some of the other more expensive festivals and the world of children runs from 9am to 7pm every day with 2 tents hosting a range of activities from puppet shows, costume events and plenty of music and theatre shows.

There's also a dedicated area for teens with comfy chillout areas, jam sessions, hair braiding and henna tattoos. Under 5s are catered for too with plenty of craft and fun activities throughout the day.

The music line up is eclectic with the likes of Ziggy Marley, Macy Gray and Orbital confirmed for 2019 and the food is equally fantastic with tasty treats from across the globe.

Don't miss Sunday's carnival procession where costumed children, music and dancing bring the festival to a heart-stopping crescendo.

27th-30th July 2019 | Charlton Park, Wiltshire

4 Deer Shed Festival

Don't expect Beyonce or the Rolling Stones to pitch up at Deer Shed festival but don't let that put you off. Deer Shed provides a real family-friendly atmosphere alongside a brilliant range of music, comedy acts such as Reginald D. Hunter and shows from the likes of The Scummy Mummies to name a few.

This year's festival centres around arts, science and sport with loads of performances, activities and shows for all ages. There's an under 5s area with a sensory tent, play areas, mini rave and baby massage for the little tots and older kids are catered for too whether they want to master a Rubik's cube, learn to fence or even create their own comic book.

There's plenty to explore at Deer Shed and for those who like to discover new music away from the mainstream, it's a great place to take the family this Summer.

21st-23rd July 2019 | Baldersby Park, North Yorkshire 

5 The Big Feastival

As the name suggests, food is the name of the day at The Big Feastival. Headline music acts such as Rudimental, Jess Glynne and Elbow have equal billing with top chefs like Raymond Blanc, Prue Leith and Daniel Clifford ensuring everyone's stomachs are given equal priority to their ears! Started by Blur's Alex James and taking place on his farm in the Cotswolds, it combines a family-friendly atmosphere with big names in the music and culinary worlds.

And there's plenty for the kids too with Justin Fletcher, Peppa Pig, Paw Patrol and Dick & Dom all making an appearance. The vintage funfair is great for all ages and activities such as tree climbing, circus school, music and arts means there's plenty to keep everyone occupied throughout the day.

Festival Hints & Tips

• Take a permanent marker and write your phone number on your children's arm, just in case you're separated from them in a crowd
• Walk around to get your bearings and point out key points of interest to the kids such as welfare huts or meeting places in case they get lost
• Food and drinks tend to be quite expensive, so get a good rucksack and pack it with snacks and drinks to avoid any hunger driven tantrums
• Invest in a compact pushchair or stroller as you'll have limited space in the car and will avoid messing up your expensive travel system if the British weather takes a turn for the worse
• If the forecast is for sunshine a sun shade or parasol will also ensure any younger children are protected from the weather. If it goes the other way, ensure you take a rain cover to protect baby and your pushchair
• Make sure you book into kids activities and classes as there tends to be limited spaces and promising a child you're going to do something and then turning up and finding it's full will end in disaster!
• Carry a change of clothes, socks and plenty of wet wipes in case there are messy activities or it's muddy. Adults tend to avoid dirt, kids tend to gravitate towards it
• A baby carrier is a great way to carry the small ones round a festival without the need for a pushchair and they also take up a lot less space!
• Prepare for all weather so make sure you take warm clothes but also suncream and hats
• Ear defenders can protect your children's ears from loud music and means you can stay watching your favourite acts for longer

And finally....your experiences will be very different to those if you went to festivals before having kids. Be prepared to don face glitter, dance to kids songs and that a bigger proportion of your drinks will be those of the soft variety!
